Breast Augmentation Surgery: Placing Under The Muscle
To place the breast implant under the muscle is also referred to as submuscular placement. This method is now one of the most common locations in your body that your plastic surgeon will choose. Placement above the muscle, also known as subglandular placement, was far more common before the FDA withdrew the approval of silicone implants in 1991. As saline implants then rose in popularity, their relative risk of rippling forced to change in the medical profession towards using submuscular placement. Under the muscle placement is also thought to decrease the risk of capsular contracture, one of the risks in breast augmentation. With silicone implants increasing in popularity, will we see a return of subglandular placement? It is too early to tell.
If you are thinking that submuscular placement means that the implant will be completely under the muscle, think again. As a rule of thumb, this method usually only covers the upper 2/3rds of the implant with muscle. The lower 1/3 is only covered by your natural breast tissue. It is possible to get the implant to be covered entirely by muscle by positioning it high enough or by covering the lower half with fascia. In all likelihood, however, your doctor will be refer to a sort of partial submuscular placement. This position is also reported to reduce the possibility of implant hardening.
Now that you know that the implant is not entirely covered by muscle, you will want to know about the issues this creates. The first thing to know is that the bottom third is only covered by the thinner tissue of the breast. This might make the rippling effect of saline to be visible in some patients, or perhaps even felt. This should be one of your pertinent factors in determining if saline or silicone is right for you. If you are concerned over the possibility of rippling, you may want to consider silicone breast implants.
What are the possible advantages of submuscular placement? Many surgeons will say that under the muscle placements are a bit easier to place. Additionally there is a reduced chance of implant visibility, especially with silicone implants. There is a lower chance of interference with a mammography as well.
The disadvantages are small really. For the doctor it might be difficult to master, but having done so will generally prefer it. As for the patient, there is more post-operative discomfort as you might expect due to stretching the muscle.
While the pain of breast augmentation is a large fear for many women considering breast augmentation, I would remind you that the pain is temporary. While the pain might be more with this type of placement, it will go away before you know it. To recover from submuscular breast augmentation is similar to recovering from a pulled muscle. The best way is to use it. Patients who use their muscles gently but regularly after the procedure will reduce their pain more quickly.
After the surgery, you will typically have drainage tubes in place for approximately two days while wearing a surgical bra. Stitches are used to close the incisions, and a bandage will be applied over your breasts to assist in healing and to reduce swelling. You will feel sore and tired for a few days after surgery, but most patients are up and around within two days after the procedure. Women are to refrain from strenuous upper body exercise for up to six weeks and lower body exercise for approximately three weeks.
Finally, one of the most important factors is that submuscular placement tends to result in a fuller breast. This is because the thickness of the muscle adds bulk and fullness. Is it worth the work and effort? For now you have something to consider. Be sure to discuss the advantages of submuscular and subglandular placements with your plastic surgeon before making your final decision.

Large Breast Implants: Things To Think About
For this discussion, we are referring to big breast implants as those implants that will increase your breast size to a D cup or larger. The most popular breast implant size increases a breast size to a C cup in breast augmentation. Larger breast implants that result in D cup or larger are becoming quite common in America.
Is a D cup breast size or larger right for you? While the average sized breast implant is approximately 350cc in volume, breast implants are manufactured in sizes much larger such as 700cc, 850cc, 1000cc breast implants and larger. As a general note, implant sizes greater than 550cc will usually result in breast sizes greater than a D cup. Try breast implant sizers to find your big breast implant size.
Big breast implants have been popularized by celebrity women who are actors, entertainers, and models. The motivation for these women to choose a larger size may be quite different from your own. Celebrities may benefit from a larger breast size for many different reasons from your own:
* Since they are often on stage or on a tall movie screen, the breasts of a celebrity will not necessarily appear as large or appealing as they would up close and in real life. Bigger breasts will tend to stand out on the screen and gain attention.
* Bigger breasts will spark controversy which is valuable in the press.. Celebrities like Selma Hayek, Angela Jennings, Jodie Marsh have gained significant notoriety and public attention in part due to the size of their breasts, regardless of whether or not they have received breast implants.
* Big breasts may be the difference on whether or not an actor, entertainer, or model gets the desired role or job that they are seeking due to the requirements of the role.
Your motivation for big breast implants may be completely different if you are not in one of these jobs. For you, the choice may be more related to your own aesthetic sense regarding your breast size as it relates to your body type. Or perhaps you may have always dreamed of having big, voluptuous breast and want to take advantage of modern breast augmentation procedures. Take caution in being too inspired by celebrity breast sizes as they might be perfect for their profession, but may not necessarily be desirable to you in everyday life. If you are considering getting big breast implants, some of the things you should plan to consider include:
* Larger implants will attract attention. Big breasts get attention not only from your family, friends, co-workers, but from the public in general. Surprisingly soon after you get your breast implants, people will tend to forget that you have breast implants and simply accept them as your own breasts. If you are comfortable with attention to your new breast size, big breast implants may be right for you.
* Clothing. The type and style of your fashions will change. Ideal apparel for big breasts is significantly different from that designed for smaller breasts. Your choices in bras will become somewhat limited as well, especially if you choose a breast size of DD or larger.
* Think About Your Body. Bigger breasts will impact your body. Women with larger breasts sometimes report back problems resulting from the weight of their breasts.. Your breast tissue and skin will also stretch so that if you desire to reduce your breast size later, the new breast implant procedure wil be more difficult and will likely result in scarring. Additionally, the weight of a big breast implant can may cause the entire breast to sag under the weight of the breast implant.
* Consider the Breast implant profile. If the base diameter of your breast is narrower than your desired breast implant it can impact your arm movement. Choosing a higher profile big breast implant may be necessary in this case. In some cases, your body may not even be able to handle the size you want.
* Additional Surgery. The most common reason women require subsequent operations is to change their breast implant size. However, plastic surgeons will typically say it is to increase the breast size.
You will really benefit by trying out larger implant sizes by using breast implant sizers. A major change in your body may have some unexpected and undesired results which could prove to be disappointing to you after breast augmentation. As an example, Real Housewives star, Tamra Barney, opted to reduce her breast implant size from a D cup to C cup after she received unwanted public attention to her breasts. Could this happen to you?
By test driving big breast implants before your breast augmentation you may prevent such an issue. There are several breast implant sizing systems on the market today, but only a few that let you experiment with larger sizes. By your own experience you may decide whether or not big breast implants are right for you.
Try wearing the larger sizers out shopping for a weekend, or out on a trip with some friends just to see how you will feel about the larger size. You will want to use them throughout the day and evening in as many situations as possible. They can really help you prepare for the surgery and feel confident about your size decision. If you the feeling and the new attention to your breasts after using the sizers, large breast augmetnation may be right for you.
Before you decide on big breast implants you will need to meet with your plastic surgeon to decide how they will be a possibility for you given your body type. Think this decision through deeply because it can impact your life significantly. In some ways, the bigger the implant the bigger the impact. After wearing the breast implant sizing system and talking with your doctor you still prefer a D cup or larger, large breast augmentation may be right for you.

Maple Grove Breast Augmentation
Maple Grove Breast Augmentation Doctors
There are several highly qualified Maple Grove breast augmentation doctors who are interested in meeting with you. You will want to have wide base of information prior to your consultation so that you can use your time wisely. Given the fact that most surgeons today charge a consultation fee and have limited time during the consultation, you should come prepared with a list of questions so that you can use your time wisely. Let us take a look at this common surgery and explore an overview of the facts regarding breast augmentation.Maple Grove Breast Augmentation: Silicone Implants Are Back
Maple Grove breast augmentation doctors were approved to start using silicone breast implants after the FDA issued an approval in 2006. The controversy over the use of silicone has significantly diminished after 14 years of testing with patients from 1992 to 2006. Silicone has numerous advantages including the fact that they are more natural to the touch and create a fuller more natural looking breast. Despite the fact that the costs of your overall procedure can increase by as much as one thousand dollars, Maple Grove patients are commonly opting for this type of implant today.Maple Grove Breast Augmentation: Under the Breast Fold Incision (inframmary)
Of the four incision methods for placing your implant the most popular is the inframmary incision. With this method your Maple Grove breast augmentation surgeon will make a small incision under the breast fold and then slide the implant either completely under the chest muscle, partially under, or over it. One of the distinct advantages of this method is the accuracy of placement which can help avoid assymetry of the breast implants. Additionally it is thought to be the method which is least likely to interfere with breast feeding. Perhaps the only real disadvantage is that this method leaves the most obvious scar, though it is easily concealed in any clothing.Maple Grove Breast Augmentation: Over or Under The Muscle
The decision as to whether or not place your implant over or above the chest muscle depends upon a variety of factors. Prior to the 1992 when silicone implants were the primary choice, placements tended to be over the muscle. When saline implants became the only choice, doctors quickly recognized that the implant needed to be placed under the muscle to avoid a rippling effect that could be seen through the breast tissue. Many surgeons today still prefer placement under the muscle as the feel the implant takes on a more natural looking appearance. Still, with the increasing amount of silicone implants, we may see more placements above the muscle once again.Maple Grove Breast Augmentation: Common Implant Sizes
Many women ask their Maple Grove breast augmentation surgeon about what they believe to be the most common implant size. While there are no specific statistics available on this it is thought to be that most women choose to increase their bust size to approximately a C cup or D cup. The implant size will vary depending upon your current breast size, of course, so that a large implant size is needed to to achieve these cup sizes in women with very little breast tissue. One of the best ways for you to experiment with these differing sizes is to The more recent innovations include a system that is actually designed for you to wear in all of your favorite apparel. This is especially valuable since you get a chance to literally experience the difference between a C cup, D cup, or even DD cup before you make your final decision in terms of breast implant size.Maple Grove Breast Augmentation Financing
For many women today the choice for this fairly expensive procedure includes questions about financing options. Insurance companies generally do not cover this procedure if it is an elective procedure. Perhaps the most common method of financing the procedure is through popular credit cards which nearly all Maple Grove breast augmentation doctors accept. Additional options include lines of credit through local banks and home equity loans. There are also specialized financing options through financial institutions offering medical loans though the interest rates on these may be a bit higher than a credit card. When you meet with your doctor they will be able to guide you through the various financing options available. You should plan to meet with your surgeon as much as six months before you want the procedure to occur. After your first consultation with the doctor you will want to try on breast implant sizers for a few weeks to settle into your favorite size. Many women report that they might change their mind several times about their desired implant size after wearing the sizers between the first and last consultation. Your final consultation, just prior to the surgery will be focused on the final preparation and most importantly, your choice in breast implant size.

Implant Sizers: Top 7 Reasons To Use
It is important to try on different breast implant sizes if you want to avoid subsequent surgeries. I have put together a list of the top 7 reasons to buy breast implant sizers before choosing your final size choice:
1) You are going to spend a lot of money on breast implants, maybe four to five thousand dollars. The additional cost of sizers, maybe a hundred dollars or so, is well worth it to prevent going under the knife a second time!
2) The risks of breast augmentation are comparatively minor versus some operations. Still, using breast sizers can help you avoid going under the knife and under anesthesia for a second time.
3) Experience is simply better than guesswork. By experiencing various breast sizes before you undergo the procedure, you avoid leaving your decision to simple guesswork.
4) Breast augmentation before and after photos do not tell the whole story. A certain implant size may look good on one womans body, but have a completely different effect on yours. Using a sizer can help you see and feel what different breast sizes are like.
5) Various breast sizes in different clothing and activities can have an impact on your decision. The twenty minutes at a doctors office is important, but you should really live with different sizes before you make your final decision.
6) Your body changes throughout every month and throughout your life. Wearing breast implant sizers over a period of time can help you decide on an appropriate size.
7) Most women who undergo subsequent surgeries come back to get a larger size. Most report that they were concerned about going too big the first time, but found they liked their new breasts so much they wanted to come back and make them bigger. If they had used breast implant sizers would this have happened to them?
If you are considering breast augmentation, try using breast implant sizers to see how you look and feel with different sizes. Wear a variety of different breast implant sizes over a period of time to experience your thoughts, emotions, and feelings about each size. Try wearing each sizer set in your favorite clothing. Go beyond just standing in front of a mirror with different sizes. You really get a feeling for the whole psychological impact by getting out of the house while wearing the sizers. Wear them frequently out shopping, out for a night on the town, or even at work. Examine how you feel and get feedback from your family and friends.
Sized similarly to breast implants, sizers help women choose an appropriate implant size. Would you prefer a C cup or D cup? There are many reasons to try on your new breast size before making the final choice.

Saline v. Silicone: What Happens When They Break?
Eventually all implants may simply wear out over time and develop a hole in the outer shell, causing a leak. The leak naturally happens over time as a result of the motion within the implant wall. A tear may develop in the outer shell due to the pressure of the implant contents due to your natural motion. This may occur more frequently in implants that are placed under the muscle due to the additional pressure. Many advancements have occurred in the manufacturing of implants increasing the durability, but they are still not indestructible.
Over the past 14 years the most common implant has been filled with saline. Until November of 2006 saline was the only FDA approved implant, while the silicone implant was used primarily in clinical trials. Most of the implants subject to fatigue and failure today are saline as a result.
Saline implants are subject to deflation because the fluid can easily flow through a hole in the outer shell. In the case of saline, if a rupture occurs the deflation happens quite quickly. The actual period of time it takes to deflate varies but it can happen in as little as a day, or as long as a week or more.
Women usually notice it when they see or feel that their breast is not as full as it once was. The breast implant failure is rather obvious. No one wants a rupture to occur, of course, but some women prefer saline because of this very point. Since the deflation occurs quickly they will know about the problem right away and can seek medical attention. That is, upon failure of the saline implant the woman knows rather quickly that she needs to visit her plastic surgeon.
Silicone gel implants are made of a thick, cohesive gel and are not prone to rapid deflation. The cohesive silicone gel is rather thick and sticky and is bonded together. Even when cut in half with a knife, the implant holds itself together. Unless the hole developing in the implant is very large, the gel is not likely to squeeze out. Considering the costs and risks involved it is important you make the right decision between saline and silicone.
All varieties of implants are subject to failure. As saline is subject to rapid deflation it is more likely a woman would need to replace this type at some point due to its rupture. Under most circumstances, even with a significant rupture, silicone implants will retain their fullness and therefore go unnoticed.
If failure occurs, you will need to visit with your plastic surgeon as quickly as possible. While the rupture of implants are not as common as in the past is remains as one of the important factors you must consider when choosing your implant. When you meet with you plastic surgeon be sure to discuss the benefits and risks of saline and silicone breast implant ruptures.
Breast implant failure is a real probability in all breast implants. Are saline or silicone breast implants different? Each type fails in a different way. It is important to know and understand how and when they fail. With proper care and attention your implants should last a long time.
Breast augmentation surgery can help you have the beautiful breasts you have always dreamed about. If you choose your doctor carefully, you can be assured that they will do everything possible to insure excellent results which will be free from any unwanted complications. Afteryour breast augmentation surgery, it is up to you to maintain your new breasts by avoiding anything which will compromise them or injure your breasts.
If you do your research thoroughly, and follow the instructions from your doctor you are already doing what you can do prevent breast implant failure. Be sure to get medical attention immediately should you suspect that your implants have failed. With proper care and attention, breast implants can be a very satisfying lifestyle choice. Follow the instructions of your doctor throughout your consultations.

Breast Augmentation Recovery Time: How Long Does It Take?
Silicone Gel vs. Saline Breast Implants
Breast implants are available in two forms: Saline implants and silicone gel implants. Each implant type has pros and cons associated with it. Saline implants are most often used in the United States, however the statistics are changing rapidly since the re-introduction of silicone in 2006.
The surface of the saline implant may be smooth or textured. The shell is made of a strong silicone and the saline is added to the implant at the time of surgery. Because of this the implant incision required is fairly small. The advantage of saline implants is that if the implant bursts, the saline is non-toxic and readily absorbed by the body. Saline breast implants, of course, had been the only choice in the United States from 1992 to 2006.
Some people still consider silicone gel implants to be somewhat controversial. Women have made claims of connective tissue disorders (CTD) and silicone implants are believed by some to be the cause. However, the actual causes of CTD are yet unknown. In 1992, the Food and Drug Administration placed a moratorium on silicone-filled implants. However, in 2006, the FDA approved the use of silicone gel implants. These implants are widely used today for breast augmentation surgery.
Unlike saline implants, silicone gel implants are obtained pre-filled prior to surgery. The newly approved silicone gel implants have three layers of coating to protect the body from silicone gel bleed and prevent ruptures. Due to the pre-filling of the implants, the incision required to insert the device must be larger than with saline implants. Like saline implants, the texture of the surface of saline gel implants may be smooth or textured.
Recovery Time
Recovery time after breast augmentation surgery is different for everyone due to the differences of our bodies. However, you may expect to experience quite a bit of discomfort for a few days to a few weeks after the procedure. Size and placement of the breast implants will determine level of discomfort. For example, larger implants will cause more discomfort. The most important thing is that you continue to take prescribed medications, particularly antibiotics, to ward off infection which can be serious. One of the leading causes of death in hospital is from infection. Be sure to keep your body strong after the procedures with plenty of rest, plenty of water and taking all of your prescribed medication. Exercise only as prescribed your surgeon.
Immediately after the surgery, the breasts will appear misshapen and swollen in parts. The process of the breast tissue completely healing and the breasts taking on their permanent shape will take approximately six to eight weeks. Stitches will generally dissolve in about one week. However, swelling and bruising may continue for several weeks.
Your doctor will prescribe a compression bra or bandage. Immediately after surgery, compression bandages prevent the build up of fluids. The compression bandage / bra used over the first few weeks after surgery helps to keep the implants in place and helps speed recovery after breast augmentation surgery. These are critical to wear for the prescribed period of time to prevent the effect of rapid descent.
Tips to Reduce Pain
Your physician will prescribe pain medication for the days following the surgery. Use as prescribed. When the pain has subsided, you may wish to use ibupropin or another over the counter pain reliever. Warm showers will sometimes relieve mild pain. Ask your doctor when he / she recommends that you be able to shower and bathe after surgery.
Recommended Exercises After Surgery
Very mild exercises are recommended for the weeks following breast augmentation surgery. As to be expected, the muscles of the upper torso will be swollen, sore and bruised. For exercise during these times, try a low impact leg workout or a sitting workout. It is important that you do not stretch the surgical area until proper healing has occurred. After about a month, you should be able to resume your normal exercise routine. Be sure you gain clearance from your doctor prior to any regular exercise routine.
Returning to Regular Activities
Full breast augmentation surgery recovery will take at least a few months and will vary with each individual. It can be tempting to speed the process but if you do not follow directions you may interrupt the process and reduce the life expectancy of your new implants. You may return to regular activities, including your job, after about two weeks recovery time. Your doctor will provide details regarding using the muscles around your implants and how to minimize the chance of complications from returning to activities too soon.
If you plan appropriately, your recovery time from breast augmentation surgery can go quickly and smoothly. Yes, there is a very real temptation to rush the process, to wear the new exciting bras too soon. Be patient and be aware of the procedures. Rushing the process can delay healing and even damage the results. If you treat yourself well during this time you will increase your satisfaction with the procedure over a longer period of time.
