What is capsular contracture?

Capsular Contracture: the contraction of the fibrous capsule that forms around a foreign body, or namely the breast implant. Severe capsular contracture can cause deformity or hardeninig of the breast, implant ruptures and pain. Every patient will have some scar tissue that forms around the breast implant, however if there is excessive scar tissue the implant will feel firmer or even harder depending on the "grade" of capsular contraction.
