Reasons for Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation has become the most common plastic surgery, even above liposuction. What has caused this explosion? Over the last several decades people have really changed their attitude. One measure might be turning on the television and listen to what's being talked about. Real Housewives aside (talked about every episode), breast implant discussion is involved every day on some TV show or another. Shows like Dr. 90210 went a long way to popularize not only breast augmentation, but plastic surgery in general. So how does this translate into reasons for breast augmentation?

Choices are what drives us, right? We all want more choices in life. Having choices means that we can take advantage of the medical advances and improve ourselves in the way we want to. As women have chosen breast implants for an aesthetic purpose, the choice is now generally accepted. Why shouldn't a woman have the right to choose breast augmentation if she wants to?

There has been a lot written about how breast augmentation can improve a woman's self-esteem. I have studied this by reading dozens of articles on the subject and I think this is true, but with a major proviso. Breast implants in and of themselves do not improve a woman's self-esteem. Just because you have bigger breasts is not going to cure a poor self-image, like it or not. The part of this that is based in truth is that if a woman already has a high self-esteem, breast implants can have the effect of improving an already solid self-esteem. It seems the precise opposite might be true, in fact, for women with an already low self-esteem.

With a low self-esteem already, a woman might find herself dissapointed by the results of breast augmentation. It just isn't a cure for low self-esteem. A woman might have hoped for something to happen to her personally that in fact never occurs. There are some studies out that actually link breast augmentation to suicide in these cases. Be sure to pay attention to this if you suffer from low self-esteem. You simply cannot look for something external to improve a poor self-image. I would encourage you to truly look into yourself as to why you want breast implants.
